S355JO steel sheets and plates are classified as non-alloy structural steels under the EN 10025-2 standards. Their chemical makeup generally consists of a maximum of 0.20% carbon, 1.60% manganese, along with trace amounts of phosphorus and sulfur. This low carbon content significantly improves weldability. In terms of mechanical properties, S355JO steel boasts a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa and tensile strength that ranges from 470 to 630 MPa. The “JO” designation indicates a minimum impact energy of 27J at 0°C, ensuring that the steel remains tough even in colder temperatures.
